Disability awareness
Gain the knowledge and confidence to enable disabled people to take part in boating, feel welcome and to share in a passion for getting on the water
Understanding Barriers
Around 1 in 5 people have a disability so understanding the barriers that prevent people taking part is really important. Based on the social model of disability and using a number of scenarios, the course will give you:
- A set of frameworks, principles and models to engage people so that can be active and take part in boating
- Ideas on identifying and removing barriers to participation
- The confidence and skills to adopt a person centred approach based on asking not assuming, listening and adapting, and delivering opportunities to get on the water and learning from them
Delivery of the course
An RYA Disability Awareness Instructor delivers the course at a venue near you. The course fee may vary due to venues recovering their costs. Course completion certificates are available.
